You read Jane Eyre last year! 🥹 Was it your first time? I picked it up again last year, too, and am reading a few pages here and there. I read it in high school and have vivid images of me walking home from school, deep into that book. I loved how much it drew me in even though I don't remember exactly what it was; I'm not sure it matters; I know I loved it.
Have you seen the threads about Jane possibly being autistic? Curious what you think! That’s actually one of the reasons I picked it up again - to see for myself.
Yes! I think that may be why I relate to her so much. Especially after rereading, I feel like she's very autistic coded (though of course Brontë wouldn't have had words for that) and I really loved being able to read it through that lens this time around.
Congrats on the expansion of your family :) - looking forward to the pics. Thanks, as always, for curating your picks. I'm reading Patty Krawec's book right now...so glad to have her lessons in real American history.
Isn't it beautiful? It's on my list to purchase a physical copy so I can read it again. I'm just starting to feel brave enough to try out annotation, and I have a whole list of books I'm planning to go through again eventually, and this is definitely one of them.
Yes, it is beautiful…and I so appreciate her tone of unapologetic truth telling. I’m thinking of choosing it for a book club meeting I’m hosting a few months from now.
I love this. You feel like a kindred spirit. I’m so glad I found your Substack. I’ve been on a TJ Klune kick lately and loving it. With nonfiction added in too of course.
Thank you so much! 🧡 I definitely have to read more of Klune's work! I'll be reading the sequel to the House in the Cerulean Sea soon, and I'm really looking forward to it.

It was my second time, my first was about a decade ago as an English major. I immediately loved it and still do. 🧡

That's a great choice for a book club!

The House on the Cerulean Sea is still my favorite book of his. The sequel is great too though.
