The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches was one of my favorites this past year too! It felt like the most delightful cushion to fall into, if that makes any sense, which it probably doesn't...

Thanks for sharing these recommendations! I love the Dark is Rising - I read it for the first time a couple of years ago and was stunned to realize it was written so long ago (and that I'd never known of it before).

I felt the same! It's almost like a cult classic. It's aged remarkably well, and I'm hoping the rest of the series will have as well.

I agree...an incredibly well-kept secret/hidden gem, every bit as captivating as much more well-known thinks in the fantasy genre. You'll probably get around to reading the rest of the series before I do...I'd love to hear what you think :)

I'm planning to do the read along again this December, so I think I'll read the first book (which I understand is more of a prequel to the events of the second) and then continue with the others after the new year. So it'll be a bit! But I'll definitely share about them here when I do!

I have read The Night Circus and Evelyn Hugo - have you read Daisy Jones and the Six (also by Taylor Jenkins Reid)? My daughter and I both read and watched the series and now she is re-reading and annotating (English major!) And of course, I have read Living Resistance.

I think I posted over on Katilin's post but I am listening to audiobooks and reading "real" books at the same time lately. Right now, listening to Selma Blair's memoir and reading a fiction book that I picked up in a little free library. Neither one particularly of note. The last fiction book I read was Anna Quindlen's Rise and Shine and it was good.

For nonfiction, I would highly recommend Kate Bowler if you haven't read her. She is somewhat faith based, but in a very progressive, all inclusive way and she abhors toxic positivity and such. Her newest book comes out today and I should get my copy tomorrow. https://katebowler.com/about/

I have heard good things about Daisy Jones and the Six but hesitated because I'm not very musically inclined and worried it might not land for me. I'd love to hear your thoughts about that!

I also have a tendency to read multiple types of books at once. I tagged Kate Bowler's book in Libby so I'll be notified when it's available. Thank you so much for the recommendation, it sounds like just my kind of book.

Yay. I just love Kate. She has a podcast too

Yes on Daisy Jones. There is a lot of talk about music and the industry but it really addresses so much more. Relationships, addiction, creativity, etc. it is actually easier to listen to than read because of all of the changes in viewpoint so the second time round I did listen to an audiobook from the library.
